"It was a perfect time to think silver . Silver was the future , it was spacey...

... Astronauts wore silver suits and their equipment was silver too . And silver was also the past , the Silver screen , Hollywood actresses photographed in silver sets and maybe more than anything else silver was narcissism . Mirrors were backed with silver . "
  (Andy Warhol)

The girl in the photographs is a Silver Lake French leopard sliced in half. She is now living near the LA zoo. Lula, don't take too many pills for your ills they kill. Keep things furry and sunny. Orange Delight Juicy days and larger than life silver screen nights.

“We are shaped and fashioned by what we love.”
(Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)

Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough/Proenza Schouler
friend of mine, working in the fashion buisness recently told me that he prefers male fashion designer when it comes to womenswear. His argument was that  men designing womens fashion are  focusing on the brands language and the target group rather than designing for themselves.

“There is no excellent beauty that hath not
some strangeness in the proportion.”
(Francis Bacon)

The signs point to future. At least if you take a closer look to the models.

Since the Supermodel Era of the Nineties the classic beauty has constantly receded into the background. Starting with a handful unconventional looking models the trend towards let's say uncommon beauty is growing year on year.

Significant facial structures, tooth gaps, eyes closely flanking or set wide apart. Lindsey Wixson, Daphne Groeneveld would have probably not really fit in the picture of a supermodel one or two decades ago. The Kate-Moss-like perfectly proportional face seems to go out of fashion slowly but surely.

Or maybe, just maybe, the often discussed theory seems to become reality and "the others" are slowly occupying our world as we know it.

“The sight of a naked woman makes me imagine her skeleton.
As a result, joyful spectacles sadden me and sad ones affect me
but little.”
(Flaubert)

The contact sheet is great because both shots
are in the same roll.

I took the picture of the skeleton
sticking out of the window of the Grande Galerie de l'Évolution
as I left the YSL show
held next door at the Galerie de Minéralogie et Géologie
on my way back to the Metro .

"Ugly means truth. I find ugliness honest."
Martin Eder for I Love You No.7 "The Wrong Issue

In addition to our video interview and the exhibiton announcement of Martin Eder's “Asymmetrie” here is the full interview we did for I Love You our latest “Wrong Issue”.

What drives you? What excites you about your work?

Whenever I am asked this question, I always reply with the same answer: it’s anger that drives me. I am aware that it sounds too easy, since anger is too high-flying of a notion and yet it is anger. One is attacked and one strikes back. It’s a reaction shared by hedgehogs, turtles and prehistoric animals;it’s the moment an octopus discharges ink.

Who is it exactly that attacks you? The world?

Yes, and I agree that it’s slightly mad. One thinks one is attacked, although it’s obviously not the case. When you look at the riots that took place in England recently, you can see people actually beingattacked. People make you believe that it’s awesome to own three TVsand the latest iPhone, but unfortunately they cannot afford it. Suddenly the situation shifts and the strikers break panes and simply grab shit from the stores. It’s actually quite normal that this happens. I can understand that very well; the anger I feel is very similar.

Is beauty possible in this frame of things?

Beauty? Yes. I think that beauty lies in humility. Beauty mostly appears as a by-product, when one is busy with things that are not beautiful tostart with. Something lies still in front of you and you suddenly think, “That does not look too bad actually.” A flower, for instance. Aesthetics come as a surprise.

We recommend: “Asymmetrie” by Martin Eder

Populated by naked young women and saccharine fluffy pets, Martin Eder’s semi-surrealistic paintings are let’s say irritating. His scenarios have a nightmarish feeling and explore the uneasy relationship between fantasy and reality. “Each painting represents a battle,” Eder says. Growing up in a catholic province might have influenced his, as he calls it “old-fashioned” attitude towards art.

In evolution, the word asymmetry is associated with chaos and mutation. The imbalance creates agitation and expels anything from the common pattern. This almost abnormal condition is also inherent of the power for change, the departure.

This saturday the Martin Eder exhibition "Asymmetrie" will be opening.
The vernissage is on saturday, 17th of March from 5pm until 9pm at the Eigen+Art Gallery. You can visit the exhibition afterwards until the 5th of May.

"I am the pink sheep of the family." (Alexander McQueen)

A photo from the Alexander McQueen show last week
I sat front row.
Space creatures.

The guy committed suicide.

Fashion killed him.

I can totally understand that.

Too much glitter. Staying alive.

Introducing: Adrian Crispin

New York-based Adrian Crispin has won us over with his work for a pretty long time now. Together with his stylist girlfriend Ann-Kathrin Obermeyer he shot one of our favorite editorials for the last I Love You - "The wrong issue".
Coming originally from New York, last year he moved to the city of love, europes melting point of the (stylistic) confident, excentric but at the same time charmingly reserved creative minds, Paris. Not the first one who has to cope with the difference of those wonderful, but very obstinate worlds. His work includes significant polaroids as well as his distinctive kind of fashion photography. It speaks a very specific language. Gloominess meets power, monochrome meets rainbow colours, abstinence meets confidence.

Adrian Crispin. Photographer from New York. Living in Paris. Loves women and taking pictures. Wondering and documenting.

We are happy to announce that Adrian will enrich our blog with a personal, little column.

Stay tuned and be curious!
